Summer Bridge is a program that is part of the Model Institutions for Excellence Project that works in close coordination with the Department of Science, Technology at Universidad Metropolitana. It is designed for students who graduate from high school, allowing them to take an intensive mathematics training during the month of June and July previous to their entrance to UMET. In this manner, participants are able to enroll in university courses at the calculus level starting their university life through a real bridge of knowledge between high school and the university. Summer Bridge started in the summer of 1996 and is part of the strategy of the MIE Project Pre-College Program directed toward early enrollment of talented students through the offer of academic opportunities that motivate them to enroll in careers in science.
